What is a good reaction time?
Most people land between 200 and 300 milliseconds on a simple visual cue. Around 180 ms is genuinely quick, and the human floor sits near 100 ms because the signal has to reach the brain and come back out to your hand.
Why does the test use five trials?
A single trial is mostly luck. Five trials scored on the median mean one fumbled attempt does not define your number, and one lucky attempt does not either.
Why is the wait before the cue random?
The delay varies between roughly 1.4 and 4 seconds so the timing cannot be counted out. Clicking before the cue voids that trial rather than scoring it.
